Frequently Asked Questions
How does the price of The Silhouette Solution™ compare with other products out there?
We simply created the foods to match calibrations we specified quite precisely. Protein is the most expensive ingredient by far, and that represents the bulk of the cost. The program costs about $15 a day, which is less than most people are spending on food anyway, so their program represents a diverted cost rather than an extra one.
Why does the program have two months’ of food? Can’t I buy less?
The 2-month program is designed very specifically to help people complete their first phase of weight loss. We know from experience that when people make a commitment to a program they get better results than if they do it piecemeal.
Are the products gluten-free?
No. Some do contain gluten, and while others do not specifically, all products are manufactured on equipment that may have been used for processing items containing gluten.
Why are your foods better than others out there? What makes them different?
It’s all about calibration. Foods in the marketplace are usually calibrated for profit, not for people. They’re made using the cheapest of ingredients (usually simple carbs): sugar, flour, fat, salt, that the human body is not designed to handle in quantity. We use premium ingredients in the proportions that trigger the body into weight loss, not weight gain. Most other prepared foods you see out there will be much higher in carbs and lower in protein. Just check the labels and you’ll see.
What happens when I reach my ideal weight? Or the weight I’ve chosen?
You’ll begin eating regular food again, but you’ll learn to calibrate it properly, using lean meats, lots of vegetables, whole fruits in season and minimal simple carbs. Most people continue to buy carefully calibrated Silhouette Staples for when they want a quick, satisfying snack or dessert that won’t throw their system off track. You’ll begin eating using the guidelines laid out in Dr. George Blackburn’s book “Break Though Your Set Point.”
What sources of protein do you use?
Most of the protein is from soy or whey. In some products there is casein.
What sweeteners do you use?
The sweetener used in greatest concentration in our products is FOS – or fructooligo- saccharides – typically derived from chicory and with a good, broad profile. It also has a high fiber content, and is one of the favored foods of GI bacteria. Other natural sweeteners used sparingly include organic cane sugar, apple juice concentrate, fructose and glucose. To round out the flavor profile, we are also using “pixie sprinklings” of maltitol, a sugar alcohol derived from starch, sucralose (aka Splenda), and in one product, a tiny bit of acesulfame-potassium. Note that there’s no aspartame in any of our products. Note: the huge benefits of weight loss are much greater than the temporary consumption of miniscule amounts of manufactured sweeteners!!
What about Stevia?
The formulary is working hard to be able to calibrate all of our products using as many natural ingredients as they can – and we’ll be looking next at whether the new Stevia-based sweetener, Truvia (Rebiana) might be useful for us when it is released for bulk manufacturing next year. We’re considering using that in combination with erythritol for some applications in the future.
Is there a vegetarian option for people who can’t eat chicken soup?
The chicken soup is actually 100% vegetarian. It’s just chicken-soup-flavored. In fact, all the Silhouette Solution Staples are 100% vegetarian.
